Reading Annie Dillard's book An American Childhood, published 1987 and found the following on page 144 where she recalls her tween years studying rocks:
"I thought to specialize in interesting names. In Massachusett and Connecticut, collectors found a mineral called sillimanite, named for a Yale professor. My specialized collection would feature sillimanite, radio opal, yowah huts, and agaty potch."
Who knew.
